How to Fuel Agility in an OSS World – A Silicon Valley Perspective
Hot from TM Forum’s Digital Disruption
OSI CEO John Tavs debated Scott Wharton, CEO of Vidtel, Inc., and Vivek Ragavan, CEO of Siaras, on accelerating innovation in an OSS world. By thinking differently and capturing the spirit of the entrepreneurial valley, Communication Service Providers can gain critical insights from Bay Area innovators on how to fuel service provider growth applying operational approaches and proven use cases to their own organization.
Moderated by Jesse Cryderman, Senior Editor with Pipeline magazine, the panel discussed building compelling OSS strategies with a Silicon Valley twist.
- Driving cross-functional teams effectively
- Partnering (co-opetition) successfully
- Uncovering untapped customer needs
- Enabling IT to lead organic disruption
Some of the audience members tweeted to #osifuelagility during the presentation: “…very good panel. Liked a lot. Quite lovely to hear than just straight talk. Thanks.”
Another audience member tweeted: “Will video calls replace phone calls eventually?” Ragavan didn’t believe video calls would be the norm right away because a lot of people still want to be heard and not seen.
On whether carriers should plug into Silicon Valley, Tavs said that carriers coming to Silicon Valley are creating a “copy-cat” carrier. The way Silicon Valley works is too risky for them. Leading carriers should ask themselves what they should do to grow organically instead of “copy-catting” what’s happening. Ragavan said it’s not the panacea, but having carriers plugged into Silicon Valley is an advantage and it’s an important step for carriers to do.

Add on the competitive OSS market demands of revenue optimization and growth through acquisitions, and it’s clear that service providers need solutions. Most importantly, providers need to know how services are impacting customers and how to use that knowledge to improve their “customer experience” advantage.
This webinar shares real-life lessons learned from leading mobile provider Vodafone Netherlands, as well as cross-customer perspectives from global service assurance provider OSI.
