Usability Engineering

Usability Engineering comprises the extent which a product can be used by specified users to achieve specified goals with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a specified context of use.

Usability attributes outline features and characteristics of the product that influence the Learnability, Effectiveness, Efficiency and Satisfaction with which users can achieve specified goals in a particular environment. 

The Experience Team @ SRIT leverages the creative synergy between individuals from domains as diverse as mass communication, industrial product design, computer sciences and the arts. Using the virtual team model, these professionals have worked on projects in domains spanning banking, finance, logistics, insurance, health care and publishing in countries like the US, Germany, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, India and Japan.

The Usability Expertise Team

  • Certified Usability Analyst's (CUA) are usability and semantic experts who conduct user research and testing and subsequently shape the overall information strategy. These experts are primary designers of the software product and are also adept at content audits, taxonomy design and implementation.
  • Graphic Designers (GDs) are the custodians of the visual style guide and branding philosophy and they develop Graphic User Interfaces

Usability Lab @ SRIT

Usability testing is a way of testing your design with real users long before you build it (using early prototypes). With user testing you get to see what works and what doesn't, and what your customers think of it, without the expense of building the product first. This includes web site testing, lab testing and mobile testing.

SRIT's Usability Lab, for testing software or Web sites, consists of two rooms:

  • Testers work on PCs in the testing room equipped with the cameras and broadcast equipment
  • Observers watch via video connection in the adjoining room. This observation room is wired so that observers can also watch a monitor showing the same system and user responses as the test participant's monitor.
