NETeXPERT Rule Fundamentals

Build a NETeXPERT rule set to manage a network

Course Overview

Beginning with a network description and sample device messages, students will build and test a complete fault-centric network management system. Extensive hands-on classroom exercises begin with an analysis of the network description in order to build classes and managed objects to represent real-world network devices. Based on analysis of sample device messages, students will build and test rule sets and alerts. Gateways will be configured in the classroom, and the complete system will be tested in a runtime environment.

What You Will Learn
In this course you will learn and practice the skills needed to build a basic rule set to manage a network, including:

  • Tracking the data flow within NETeXPERT
  • Building and using managed object classes and managed objects
  • Building simple and constructed attributes
  • Populating the NETeXPERT MIB with managed objects automatically
  • Designing and developing rule set consisting of ID, Parse, Gateway Analysis, Affected Object and Event Analysis rules
  • Constructing pointers and bi-directional object relationships
  • Using debugging tools for testing and troubleshooting rule sets
  • Using thresholding and conditional logic to create rules
